The national minute of silence in tribute to the victims of Aktau plane accident took place in Azerbaijan

Today at 12:00 (Baku time) the national minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the plane accident in Aktau (Kazakhstan) was held across the territory of entire Azerbaijan. The accident occurred with the passenger plane of AZAL air company, and 38 people perished.

The tribute was paid in all the cities and communities of Azerbaijan, in offices and organizations, in foreign countries and mosques. The Day of Mourning was declared today in Azerbaijan – the residents of the country revere the memory of those killed in the terrible air catastrophe.

A day earlier Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, signed the order to declare the National Day of Mourning on 26 December in Azerbaijan in connection with the crash of Embraer 190 plane operating the Baku-Grozny flight.

Remember that the passenger plane Embraer 190 of AZAL air company operating the Baku-Grozny flight crashed the day earlier at the distance of 3 km from Aktau airport. It had 67 people on board including 62 passengers and 5 crew members; there were 37 Azerbaijan citizens of which 23 people perished, 16 Russian citizens of which 7 people perished, 6 Kazakhstan citizens (all of them perished) and 3 Kyrgyzstan citizens (all of them survived).

Condolences

Igor Korotchenko, a political analyst and the General Director of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia), in his interview to the correspondent of the Vestnik Kavkaza expresses his condolences to the families of the victims of the Aktau plane crash.

«My sympathies are with the families of the perished. This is a huge tragedy. Of course, the families need all the support and assistance we can provide in these hard time», – Igor Korotchenko emphasized.

«As for the injured, of course, I wish them to become well as soon as possible, to recover from this terrible event», – the CISS General Director wished.

«We share the grief of this tragedy with those having lost their relatives in this dreadful plane crash», Igor Korotchenko concluded.
