Rahman Mustafayev appointed the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia
Rahman Mustafayev, the former Azerbaijanian Ambassador in the Netherlands, was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation. Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, signed this appointment.
Rahman Mustafayev is 61. He graduated Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs in 1985 with diploma with honors. In 1994-2006, he held various positions in the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Moscow. Starting from 2009, the diplomat was the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to different countries: Greece, Albania, France, Monaco, the Holy See (Vatican) and the Netherlands. He is proficient in five foreign languages: Russian, English, French, Greek, Arabic.
Igor Korotchenko, the General Director of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia) in his interview to the correspondent of Caucasus Bulletin talked about the benefits of appointing Rahman Mustafayev the Ambassador to Russia for Russian-Azerbaijanian relations.
«This is a very successful appointment of the key landmark character. First of all, Rahman Mustafayev is a professional diplomat. Second, he is a graduate of Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs, intellectual talents foundry as it has been and still is across the entire period of his existence. His training experience in Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs is the basis for his career path all the way up», he said.
«Rahman Mustafayev has worked in the system of the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and after the Azerbaijan Republic gained independence to the diplomatic service of Azerbaijan. During the recent years, he has worked in the countries, which are the most difficult for Azerbaijan, where the positions of Armenian lobbyists are very strong and the overall policy with respect to Azerbaijan is unfriendly: France and the Netherlands. Of course, this is a self-made professional thanks to his intellectual potential, hard-working nature and attention to detail», Igor Korotchenko continued.
«Rahman Mustafayev in his position of Ambassador will contribute to strengthening Russian-Azerbaijanian relations, especially bearing in mind that today Azerbaijan is moving to the position of one of the key partners and allies of Russia not only in the FSU zone, but in a broader context as well. In the course of the state visit of President Vladimir Putin to Baku and negotiations with President Ilham Aliyev new very important areas of cooperation in the spheres of economy and inter-regional relations. Implementing these steps into practice will be the main objective for Rahman Mustafayev as the Azerbaijanian Ambassador, and for his colleague in Baku Mikhail Evdokimov», the CISS General Director said.
«Taking into account the wide area of thought and the intellectual capabilities of the new Ambassador, he will also be cooperating with the leading thinktanks of Russia and will make his own contribution to further positive development of the relations between Moscow and Baku. Today these relations are excellent, but there is still room for improvement in the sphere of increasing the commodities turnover, improving inter-regional connections and knowledge-based diplomacy», Igor Korotchenko concluded.
