Korotchenko stated necessity to launch the road Aghdam – Khankendi

17 August 2023

Russian expert, political analyst Igor Korotchenko defined the main theses with relation to the future of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations based on the results of the emergency session of the  UN Security Council held on August 16.

«Within the framework of Azerbaijan’s legal field is the essence of the Russian position at yesterday’s session of the UN Security Council», Korotchenko wrote in Telegram. The expert also quoted a fragment from the speech at the session by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitri Polyansky, which says that Armenian-Azerbaijani reconciliation is unthinkable without reliable and clear security guarantees, observance of the rights of the Karabakh people on the basis of the universally recognized international principles within the legal field of Azerbaijan.

«Conclusions from the speech analysis:

  • The negotiations process between Baku and representatives of the Karabakh Armenians should be held directly, without the so called «international mechanism» (think: EU, France and USA were ignored);
  • Karabakh Armenians are considered as the residents of Azerbaijan;
  • No foreign military contingents will be present in the region – only the Russian peace-keeping contingent;
  • Launching the road Aghdam - Khankendi (and the Zangezur corridor) is necessary, then the Lachin road will open;
  • Moscow once again confirmed territorial integrity of Azerbaijan;
  • There is no alternative to the trilateral statement dated 10.11.2020», - Igor Korotchenko wrote.
