Expert calls for establishing the alliance of the South Caucasus countries to standoff the collective West

22 April 2024

The countries of South Caucasus need to join their efforts to develop the format of mutual consultations to prevent turning Armenia into the Western influence base, Igor Korotchenko stated to NEWS.ru. In his opinion, the Western countries would like to confront launching the North-South International Transportation Corridor, which is strategically important for the economy of Russia.

All the countries in the region (Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran) need to join their efforts to prevent turning Armenia into the Western influence base. Today the US, the EU and France would like to make a Trojan horse out of Yerevan, which could be used for a new round of destabilization instigating new armed conflicts and eventually plunging the region into chaos. The reason is that the North-South International Transportation Corridor goes across the territory of the region, and this corridor is vitally important for Russia to be able to bypass Western sanctions and to assure the necessary logistics for stable functioning of Russian economy, Korotchenko emphasized.

The expert noted that despite all other things the collective West wants to open the second front against Russia in the South. According to him, the leaders of the region need to commence mutual consultations at least at the level of Secretaries of national Security Councils. He emphasized that China needs to pay special attention to this proposal.

Destabilizing the situation in South Caucasus means destabilizing it in Central Asia as well, and this directly affects the interests of China. In other words, such format could provide the platform of developing the Road map for preventing the collective West from turning the South Caucasus region and all the adjacent area into the field of confrontation and destabilization, Korotchenko said.
