Russian politicians, political analysts, media managers are sending their season’s greetings to Azerbaijan and the entire Southern Caucasus

2 January 2025

Russian politicians, political analysts, and media managers are sending their season’s greetings to Azerbaijan and the entire Southern Caucasus via Moscow – Baku and are wishing peace, prosperity and constructive cooperation to the region.

Igor Korotchenko, the General Director of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies (Russia):

The Southern Caucasus today is extremely important in the geopolitical and geoeconomic sense due to its geographical position, the North-West and East-West international transportation corridors running across the region, and due to availability of hydrocarbons that are critical for the sustainability and energy security of the entire Southern Europe, at the very least.

In the broad context, peace and stability in this region should be in the interests of literally everyone. However, there are certain forces not willing to wish this to the region. They are the USA, France, and certain organizations of the European Union. They are very influential and powerful players. This means that the risks and threats for the region will stay in 2025.

The results of the Second Karabakh war of 2020 and of local anti-terrorist measures by Azerbaijan in the fall of 2023 provided for reinstatement of sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and drastically changed the situation in the region. Azerbaijan took the position of the leading country in this part of the world. The Republic of Azerbaijan now owns the mandate for assuring peace and stability in the Southern Caucasus – both de-facto and de-jure.

It will be Azerbaijan who will be assuring peace and stability through its politics and practical activities. The ones impeding this process or committing military provocations will be swept by the wind of history and by the power of the Azerbaijan armed forces.

I wish peace and stability to the region; I wish prosperity and well-being to all the nations of the Southern Caucasus without exception. At the same time, I wish the Armenians to be based on healthy rationalism, to use less emotions and more cold-blooded calculation.

I wish stability to Georgia, so that the ruling elites having received the mandate as the result of the parliamentary elections use it to the better! So that the Georgian security forces abiding by the Constitution mercilessly suppress the «Soros minions», who are now sent to the streets to shed blood of civilians and to attack the law enforcement forces. According to the laws of any country this should be qualified as an attempt of coupe-de-état, which should be suppressed using all the resources of the state security forces.

There are two points of tension in the region today – Georgia and Armenia. So let the stability, peace, prosperity and well-being come to them.

We count on signing a full-fledged Peace Treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2025 (not the substitute Yerevan is trying to push forward) – with all the clauses that require agreement, in particular – the requirement to Armenia to exclude the claims against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan from Armenian Constitution. We also hope for the maximized facilitation of the delimitation and demarcation of the state frontiers between the two countries.
