Azerbaijan’s Army among the Best in the World

27 June 2024

Azerbaijan has one of the best armies, not only among the post-Soviet countries but also by international standard. This was confirmed by the 44-day war which resulted in Armenia’s capitulation after a crushing defeat.

Report's Russian bureau cited Igor Korotchenko, the General Director of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies, making this statement at a reception on the occasion of June the 26th, the Armed Forces Day of Azerbaijan.

The expert remarked that special operations forces of leading countries have something to learn from the special forces of Azerbaijan.

«Two factors caught the attention of all military experts. The first is the use of reconnaissance and attack drones on a large scale. In this respect Azerbaijan demonstrated a model of the modern high-tech war. The second factor is the engagement of special forces: the liberation of Shusha is an unprecedented operation in its audaciousness, skill, uniqueness and, most importantly, its military and political outcomes. Special operations forces of the leading countries are currently taking cues from Azerbaijan’s Spetsnaz», the expert said.

Korotchenko highlighted an exceptional quality of professional training of the Azerbaijani army.

«It was the professional excellence of officers and generalship of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and, of course, the military leadership of the second Karabakh war victory architect President Ilham Aliyev as Commander-in-Chief, that secured the triumph, alongside with the effort and heroism of the national army. As a result, Azerbaijan ensured its sovereignty and territorial integrity having recovered territories previously under Armenian occupation», Igor Korotchenko pointed out.

The political analyst underscored that, ÷òî Russia and Azerbaijan are in a close alliance: «I would like to congratulate the personnel of Azerbaijan’s Armed forces on the professional holiday. There is a very close alliance between Russia and Azerbaijan. Remember that Azerbaijan has purchased over 5 billion dollars worth of Russian weapons which, among everything else, secured a victory in the second Karabakh war. Today our leaders, our countries maintain a solid and close relationship. We shall expect both military and military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Baku to further develop for the sake of peace, security and stability of South Caucasus», he concluded.
