There is no alternative to opening the Zangezur corridor

4 August 2023

Russia believes it important to open the Zangezur corridor. According to the Information Agency Report, this was stated by the General Director of the Caspian Institute of Strategic Studies (Russia) Igor Korotchenko.

«Russia has repeatedly underlined the importance of opening this infrastructure project. It was recorded in the trilateral statement dated November 10, 2020. In any case Moscow stands for unblocking transport communications in the region and for full implementation of the provisions laid down in the trilateral statement», Korotchenko stated.

The political analyst added that Armenian Prime-Minister Nikol Pashinyan officially refused to open the Zangezur corridor at the end of last year: «In turn, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev time and again states that this process will be implemented, the Azerbaijani side is fulfilling its part of the work, respectively, the matter depends on the Armenian side for there is no alternative to opening the Zangezur corridor».
